RESTAURANT DESCRIPTION

COMAL is a gathering place located in the heart of Berkeley’s bustling Arts District, one block north of the Downtown Berkeley BART Station. The restaurant is housed in a single story building (circa 1927) and features a stunning secluded rear patio with a full bar, covered dining area and al fresco beer garden.

Executive Chef Matt Gandin, most recently chef de cuisine at San Francisco’s Delfina from 2007-2011, creates earthy, modern interpretations of dishes from various regions of Mexico, with an emphasis on the southern state of Oaxaca and neighboring coastal regions. We offer a selection of “all-Mexican” craft cocktails (by the Bon Vivants) that are “delicious, not precious” and also feature seasonal house-made sangritas paired with our curated selection of agave spirits (including tequila, mezcal, sotol and bacanora) plus a large selection of beer and wine on tap.
