Taylor's Steakhouse is a good place to enjoy traditional steakhouse fare in an atmosphere that will take you back to midcentury American comfort and service.
The meats are well-cooked, and sides are mildly seasoned (garlic is the spiciest thing you'll encounter in most dishes) and do well for sensitive palettes. Sauces for all dishes are typically served on the side in gravy boats, which is excellent for folks who want to dress their own meats. For some dishes, like the chicken piccata, heavier elements like capers may have settled to the bottom of the gravy boat -- so give it a stir before dressing. Main dishes are served a-la-carte, with sides like their very creamy mashed potatoes (some skins whipped in the mix, still very creamy) and garlic spinach that are reasonably priced additions with large portions.
You came here for the steak, ribs, and seafood -- take your vegetarian and vegan friends elsewhere: the only things here for them are sides and a couple of salads not quite hearty enough for a full entree (no veg protein options).
The staff are friendly and helpful, especially front-of-house. Inside, the bar area and main inside dining areas are dimly lit enough that your eyes will need a moment to adjust on a bright day, but day or night, this gives a cozy and intimate feeling in the spacious interior with many booth-style tables. (If you are seated in the main dining, you might need a phone flashlight to read the menu.) A wine room with seating and private group room allow for booking of private parties. There is also a large indoor patio with a fireplace and large windows for brighter daytime lighting. There are a few tables on a fully outdoor back patio, a terrific place for lunch (which, at the time of this review, is served only on Thursdays and Fridays). On the outdoor patio, the staff allow dogs (during lunch seatings and sometimes dinner, if it's not overly busy); if you're bringing a dog, it's easier to enter through this back patio from the parking lot side of the restaurant.
There is a parking lot in back that can get full at busy times, so if you're coming on a weekend evening, you might want to grab a street parking spot on your way in.
There are small signs at the entrances that read "dress code," but don't list the dress code. Their website reads: "We consider tank tops, flip flops, team athletic attire, and provocative clothing too casual for Taylor's dining experience." Expect to see many people in jackets and ties and otherwise dressed for "fine dining," though for lunch seatings, more casual like hoodies and athleisure wear are common. Some reviews on TripAdvisor also note folks coming in for dinner service in jeans and t-shirts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dave B.La Cañada Flintridge, CA200105220Apr 23, 2024
Not a big fan, last two times I've came here I ended up getting the Spencer steak and every time it has been tough and stringy tendon meat. No good!!
The garlic bread her is great as is the garlic mashed potatoes are good too! I need to find a different piece of meat to try here because that Spencer steak is no good.
Services is good. The ambience is nice dark a dress code.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 39234650Mar 6, 2024
Friday night was packed but luckily the wait was 20 minutes to get seated.
Ordered the following:
Clam chowder: had a slightly fishy taste. Wasn't the best or freshest clam chowder. There were a few pieces of oyster and needed some pepper flakes.
Chilled jumbo prawn cocktail: this is a must order if you like seafood. The prawns are juicy and thicc and really refreshing with the cocktail sauce.
Bone in ribeye: flavorful and fatty. Just thinking about it making me drool. Definitely a must get!
Service is courteous and friendly. Interior is gives an old school steakhouse feel, but everything is modern and clean.
Valet parking is available but otherwise there's a huge lot that's shared with other businesses.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Fiona K.Irvine, CA1817102Feb 10, 2024
I like this place because it was great value.
HOWEVER, twice in a row we found a foreign subject in our food.
Last time we found a hair in our food (not pictured) and last night we found a huge piece of plastic in our mushroom.
We notified our server and he took the mushrooms off our bill and that was it.
He didn't seem too apologetic. He was tried to take our side dishes to show the kitchen staff the plastic piece.
My prime rib was ok. The rib cap was fatty and tender but the eye was tough and didn't finish.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Oct 19, 2023
The brilliant curmudgeony charm of the seasoned bartender; the dark mahogany, riveted vinyl and low lighting; the food offerings from yesteryear; like SAND DABS, FILET OSCAR, FRENCH ONION SOUP, ESCARGOT, LONDON BROIL, CHATEAUBRIAND...yeah, it's all here in classic style.
We had STEAK STROGANOFF. The dollop of sour cream on top of that thick and saucy concoction simmering with the big fat steak chunks. WOW! Pair it with a nice pinot (of which Taylor's has plenty to choose from) and you're in business.
Steak Business.
So, whaddya say? Let's Meat there.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jul 7, 2023
Taylor's Steak house in LA Canada is a good restaurant, with good food and very good service. For some reason, though, the ambiance and restaurant setup reminds me of a diner vs. a steak house.
Entering from the parking lot entrance, to the bar, there is a not so pleasant odor like mold type odor. (Needs attention)
The 14oz prime NY steak was good and prepared medium rare to my liking, the escargot very tasty just a little too oily for me.
Scallops were realy good,
Sandabs also were very good.
Worth mentioning the service by Jesse was excellent.Helpful 31Thanks 3Love this 26Oh no 0 - Brooke W.Glendale, CA27710Feb 3, 2024
STRICTLY FOR BARTENDERS CUSTOMER SERVICE
Extremely disappointing experience. Do not go on a weekend or prepare to line up and duke it out with the entitled regulars with think they can reserve first come first serve bar area. The bartenders holding tables for others instead of letting ready patrons sit?? I've never really been treated like this. The hostess was kind but the bar and the hostess are on two separate planets. The bartenders don't respect her or the rules of the restaurant.
We never even got to eat because after waiting 35 minutes for both areas, I saw two bar spots open. Awesome! Nope, not so quick. Now the second time the bartender told me get up because those were saved spots (the parties had left and paid their full bill) only to have the spots taken up by people they're friendly with. At that point I was too pissed to wait around any longer.
I really want to try this place but don't feel like being treated poorly by a bartender.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jan 5, 2023
Came here immediately after The Rose Bowl. A cold and rainy evening make this classic steakhouse all the more inviting. Years since I've been but it still is the same. Old school tall red booths, nice bar, just an overall great atmosphere. Feel like I've seen this restaurant in hundreds of movies.
Ordered 2 burgers medium well and yet both were juicy and excellent. Blue cheese with mine. If you love a good strong blue, check this out. Came with fries, which were fries :). Ordered the French Onion soup as well. That was very good and big enough to be shared. Good service good food. What stood out to me was the friendliness of the staff and not just those that served us. Cold and numb from an amazing day, I forgot to take any more pics once the soup arrived.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Matt F.Burbank, CA0232Apr 9, 2024

Took a friend to lunch last Friday for his Birthday lunch. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Ten minutes later the waitress came back and said they were out of the fish. I then ordered the Alaskan Fish and Chips. The plate arrived with four little pieces of fish that looked like fish sticks. Tasted like they were frozen and then fried - very dry and tasteless! For $34.00 you would think large pieces of fish and freshly battered and fried. The worst Fish& Chips I have ever had. Stick with the red meat here and avoid the seafood altogether.
