My boyfriend took me here for a late valentines date night as we are huge sushi fans and wanted to find a new spot. Let me tell you, we were thoroughly impressed and felt the quality of the food and service, and reasonable prices was better than a competitor across the street.

We started off with edamame which was simple and great. We both got the Kirin lights which come in a larger size bottle, great for sharing but we each got our own. They then brought out our first two rolls that I believe were called the Roger roll I can't recall the other. They had spicy tuna and spicy salmon on the inside and the fix was great. The fish was fresh and the rice was soft. We were happy we ordered two more rolls. We then also got an albacore roll and spicy salmon which were once again amazing. The texture and taste of the fish was remarkable.

We had a wonderful time and this is definitely top of our list now. Their prices are super reasonable and between the two of us, it was only about $70 for a dinner where we ordered more than we usually ever do. We left full and satisfied! The servers were incredibly kind and helpful and made conversation with us. The restaurant is small and packed to the brim, much like sushi joints in Japan we've been to. Make sure to make a reservation early on as we were able to walk right in but there were many people waiting in line outside! Definitely recommend for HIGH quality sushi and a great experience!!

iLove this place... my top favorite Sushi eatery. The food is appetizing and delicious. A well cooked meal, its so good I keep coming back for more.

If your a fish lover I recommend there Salmon Teriyaki meal that comes with either White Rice or Brown Rice, Side Salad and Miso Soup.

There sushi is the best here done by the Chef in the bar and serve to you.

The water is always being filled and server is always present if needed any more food or replenish drinks.

      Only Cons.
Parking can be easy at times to find depending what days you go, just don't go on holidays for it will be impossible to find a parking.
Kinda hard to book for reservation at times because they are always full and packed even if you called 6 hours ahead of time. Its already booked for the day.

Hands down the best and freshest raw fish I've had in a while. We sat at the sushi bar and got our sushi super quickly. The nigiri was so delicious and not too expensive for LA pricing! It's nice and small inside and has a great ambiance. We order the sautéed green beans as well which were delicious and in a tasty sauce. Definitely coming back!

      Updated review

Came here again on our recent vacay in SoCal.

This place is awesome and should be your destination for the freshest fish outside of Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan.

We ordered their lunch special chirashi bowls which are just delicious and very filling on a warm day. Priced reasonably for the portion provided.

Totally worth a day by the beach; get there early as the line begins forming before the restaurant opens at 12 noon on the weekends.

If you have a party of two, highly recommend the sushi counter as it's amazing to observe the sushi chefs at work with their craft.

Don't wait as this place deserves more than the 5 stars we can allocate in Yelp for its exemplary service, amazing food, and cool ambiance.

Nothing beats eating sushi and then strolling around Manhattan Beach on a gorgeous sunny day..

The Izaka-Ya by Katsu-Ya is a great place to have a wonderful sushi dinner. Absolutely fantastic Sushi, and I was honestly surprised by the price. I recently returned from Japan, where I had tried countless places and would say that Izaka-Ya definitely would hold its ground. We decided to try several normal rolls and some specialty rolls. We had several people tell us about how we needed to try some of the special rolls. Each of the plates were a different experience of flavor. The service was absolutely fantastic. They were very attentive to us as we sat there. The vibes also were fantastic. We really enjoyed. It is very reasonably priced for the quality of the fish, but it is definitely worth it! I would definitely go back again.

I'm a sushi addict and have dined at multiple Izaka-Ya by Katsuya's for years and this has got to be my favorite location of them all. The interior is minimal yet elegant and rich In Japanese flair. The service always excellent, as well as this location having a larger menu of items like the New Style salmon sashimi, and quite a few other menu items that I haven't seen at other locations. (Bonus Tip - you can buy a bottle of their Miso dressing at this location to take home)

Some of my favorite menu items are below:

SPICY TUNA CRISPY RICE - 5+ stars. The rice was cooked to perfection here, and the tuna is so fresh.

SEARED TUNA STEAK W JAPANESE SALSA - 5 stars. Absolutely delicious and rich in flavor, yet still light.

CREAMY POPCORN SHRIMP - 4 1/2 stars. Great as an appetizer.

SAUTÉED BRUSSELS SPROUTS - 5 stars. I love the preparation of the sprouts here, it's packed with flavor and cooked perfectly.

CORN TEMPURA - 5 Stars. Not was I was expecting -- This dish is served with a delicious butter sauce to dip into and is giving sweet & savory at the same time. I always ask that this dish is served last cause it has a dessert like quality to it.

NEW STYLE SALMON SASHIMI - 5+ stars. This dish is like butter. So tender and light and rich in flavors that all work perfectly together.

MISO MARINATED BLACK COD - 5+ stars. This is so light and tasty, even people that don't enjoy fish seems to always love this dish.

THE ROBERT ROLL - 5 Stars. A classic roll that is wrapped in soy paper here and always great.

BAKED CRAB HAND ROLL - 5 Stars. My favorite menu item, this roll is absolute perfection! Warning, addiction is a common side effect after your first taste of this roll...

I've tried so much of this menu, I couldn't list at all. If you're looking for the best sushi in town, Izaka-Ya is it!

I fly out of LAX often from SD and this will be my new goto restaurant before heading to LAX. I got the Toro tasting which all melted in my mouth. The hamachi nigiri and uni were exceptional. The kids meal came on a boat and was so cute! I love the location, right next to the ocean. The price is generous for the quality of fish you get. Love this place so much!

I was craving sushi. I wanted to come last weekend but they were busy. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll and the lobster tempura roll. All were delicious and fresh. I was full and in and out. I will definitely return.
